The GaugeMaster Plus system is a high performance model featuring low noise and fast response for the most demanding applications.  High power x-ray sources are employed to give the best possible performance specifications.

GaugeMaster Plus systems feature stand-alone Main Electronic Cabinets with touchscreen technician’s panel mounted on the front door, and extensive diagnostic features.  The networked design provides flexibility and easy interfacing to our customers’ control systems.  A closed loop chiller is provided for cooling the high power x-ray sources.

Our electronics package provides extremely high speed measurement processing, constant monitoring of system status and alarm logging together with a complete package of diagnostic tools.  When configured to control two sets of measuring heads, significant cost savings can be realized in reversing mill and other applications.

Linux-based software provides reliability, as well as freedom from future obsolescence and support issues.  Additional reliability is achieved by using separate CPU’s for measurement and communications/graphics, thereby providing a fully networked systems using TCP/IP Ethernet and fiber optic interfaces.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe believe that the key to successful measurement lies in the manufacture of rugged, reliable and stable radiation sources and detectors covering thickness ranges up to more than 2 inches/50 mm of steel.  At RSI, our engineering team constantly evaluates the performance and longevity of these critical components, making improvements on an on-going basis.  RSI’s x-ray sources and detectors are mechanically and electrically backwards compatible with those used in many older gauges so that the customer benefits from improved performance, while minimizing the requirement for additional costly spare parts.

RSI’s exclusive X-ray Spectrum Correction (XSC) technique ensures interchangeability of x-ray sources and detectors without loss of accuracy for the lifetime of the gauge.  In addition, “DynaComp” alloy correction provides accurate measurement of all alloys at all thicknesses while minimizing the need for calibration samples.

When combined with our unique calibration, standardization and alloy correction algorithms, these x-ray sources and detectors deliver years of stable, dependable operation with guaranteed accuracy and repeatability.

The RSI Model 50 T80XC is a low cost x-ray gauge designed to replace radioisotope “gamma ray” systems, while providing significantly improved thickness measurement with better accuracy, faster response and larger air gap.

Americium-241 and other radioisotopes are becoming increasingly less desirable due to both safety and environmental concerns.  X-ray systems are inherently safer and their use is generally less restricted.  The NEMA 12 / IP 64-rated Main Electronic Cabinet houses the system computers and associated electronics.  A TCP/IP Ethernet interface permits easy integration into mill control systems.  A Profibus interface is also available.  The cabinet requires no rear access so that it may be conveniently mounted on a wall, simplifying its installation.  A touchscreen color LCD operator interface is mounted on the front door panel.

The C-frame contains an x-ray source together with a high stability x-ray detector.  The C-frame may be supplied with or without a drive motor for on-line/off-line control.  Air gaps up to 400mm can be supplied – two times larger than most Am-241 gauges, reducing the chance of damage due to strip breakage, tails and cobbles.

RSI’s compact, low power, air-cooled 80kV x-ray source is designed for long life, high stability and safe operation. The source tank is filled with insulating oil that also acts as a cooling medium, ensuring years of reliable operation.  Low power operation eliminates the need for liquid cooling of the x-ray source, while still permitting measurement of steel up to 6.5 mm thick with performance specifications far superior to traditional radioisotope gauges.

RSI also manufactures a number of other low power x-ray sources of different voltages for additional applications, such as tinplate or aluminum.

The GaugeMaster system is a high performance model featuring low noise and fast response for the most demanding applications.  High power x-ray sources are employed to give the best possible performance specifications. Differential ion chambers with selected filters ensure high sensitivity and immunity from Compton backscatter effects.IMG_0143

GaugeMaster systems feature stand-alone Main Electronic Cabinets with touchscreen technician’s panel mounted on the front door, and extensive diagnostic features.  The networked design provides flexibility and easy interfacing to our customers’ control systems.

A closed loop chiller is provided for cooling the high power x-ray sources, and many optional features are available, including split frame scanners, collimated (“shaped”) x-ray beams for ridge detection and measurement close to the strip edges.  RSI Coating Gauges feature a 3-position calibration garage for periodic accuracy checks.

Binary coating determination is available for zinc/aluminum, zinc/iron and certain other applications.

Linux-based software provides reliability as well as freedom from future obsolescence and support issues.  Additional reliability is achieved by using separate CPU’s for measurements and communication graphics, together with solid state hard drives.
